Welcome to Imperial Mapping

Our maps were, in the main, originally created in the mid-to-late 19th century. We have collected maps from a number of different sources to ensure the most comprehensive set of maps is collated. They have then been scanned at 600 dpi to provide very high quality reproduction.

The Imperial Mapping Company is creating two sets of mapping:

Facsimile Maps which are copies of the original maps containing all the important information outside of the neatline (margin of the map) such as scale, date, map name and other useful information.

Site Centred Maps which are maps that have been cropped to the neatline (all the marginal information removed), warped, stitched together and then georectified on today’s coordinate systems. This product will be able to be used in computerised mapping (Geographic Information System) systems to make it possible to centre the map on any site.

Our aim is to create mapping for the whole of Europe, this ambitious plan will be rolled out. Initially the following mapping is available:

Ireland

We have scanned 205 first edition one inch to the mile (1:63,360) Ordnance Survey maps of Ireland which were surveyed between 1829-1842. Each published map sheet covers an area on the ground of 18 miles by 12 miles.

England & Wales

We have scanned two sets of Ordnance Survey maps from the Old and New one inch to the mile series of England and Wales. The Old Series maps are a combination of differently sized sheets (quarter and full sheets). The full sheets display a maximum of 36 by 24 miles whilst the quarter sheets covers an area on the ground of 18 by 12 miles. The Old Series maps were surveyed between 1784-1869, whist the New Series were surveyed between 1842-93 and were published as quarter sheets.
