How old are the maps?
Generally the maps were produced in the mid to late19th century however this is dependant upon surveying and map publication regime of the specific country    coverage

What resolution are they scanned at?
In order to ensure that the maps are of the highest quality, scanning is at 600dpi.

Which countries are covered ?
The initial stage of the project will involve the rollout of historical mapping for Great Britain and Ireland. Our aim is then to produce digital mapping for Western Europe, see ‘About Mapping’ section for further information.

Which maps are scanned ?
We will focus on scanning topographical maps range from 1:25,000 to 1:300,000, dependant on the country, map series and the age of mapping.  coverage

Which image formats are used ?
Our maps can be supplied as TIFFs or JPEGs. Georectified mapping is supplied with either ESRI (TFW) or MapInfo (Tab) files.

What is the source of the maps ?
The original maps have been obtained from a number of different sources to ensure that we can create a comprehensive collection of high quality map images.

Are colour maps available?
The vast majority of mapping produced is black and white. However, some series of mapping are available in colour.
